NEURODIVERSITY EXPERIENCE

I have worked for many years in a specialist NHS Autism diagnostic service for adults. I have experienced a broad range of presentations found in Autism and AuDHD. These typically include; masking, burnout, gender differences, trauma and mental health conditions. I understand the importance of creating a safe and compassionate space for you to get the most out of your assessment. This involves taking an unhurried and gentle approach to the interview questions to prevent you feeling pressured or overloaded. If you need longer than the standard two appointments, this will be accommodated at no extra cost.

IN ADDITION TO MY CLINICAL EXPERIENCE, I have Training In

  • ADOS-2 – The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule – Second Edition
  • ACIA -3 – Autism Clinical Interview for Adults – Version 3
  • MIGDAS – Montario Interview Guidelines for Diagnosing the Autism Spectrum – version 2
  • UKAAN – Assessment and Diagnosis of adults with ADHD
  • UKAAN - Psychosocial support and skills training for Adult ADHD

HOLISTIC APPROACH

Prior to specialising in autism and neurodiversity, I worked in NHS community mental health teams, offering psychological assessment and psychological therapies to adults presenting with a broad range of mental health conditions. I therefore have a broad background in mental health as well as specialist experience in neurodiversity. This allows me to consider differential diagnoses and co-occurring conditions which can be common in Autism and Autism with ADHD. Research suggests that over 40 % of people with Autism have co-occurring ADHD and up to 80% will have some features of ADHD. I will consider all of the relevant information you share with me to give you a thorough assessment.

I can provide post diagnostic work to people I have assessed where my skills match any needs identified in the assessment. I aim to help you develop an authentic understanding of yourself and how to shape your life to foster growth and acceptance following a diagnosis. I draw upon a range of therapeutic models, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). I strongly believe Neurodiversity brings many strengths and my approach helps you build on these while helping you manage areas of difficulty more effectively. I am flexible in my approach and will offer adaptations to help you get the most from our work together.
